About
Hello everyone. My name is Fanny Carolina Zamora. As my mom and I share the same first name, at school and work I'm known as Fanny but at home, it's Carol. Either one is fine by me. I was born and raised in New York City, and for that, I will always be indebted to my parents. You see, the diversity that thrives here exposed me to different cultures from a very early age. I gained an awareness of traditions and customs outside of my own and, through that, an insatiable curiosity to know more about them. My very first explorations of cultural diversity came from observing my family and relatives during family gatherings - a conglomeration of Ecuadorian, Nicaraguan, Egyptian, Dominican, Spanish, Jamaican and Italian customs, each one distinct, yet seamlessly harmonized by values that are universally similar.
I don't believe in fate and destiny, but if I did, I would adamantly insist that I was destined, even trained, to love and explore other cultures from a young age. Both my parents were unintentional influences. My dad would always show me rather vivid wildlife documentaries, primarily about Africa (he never really understood the age restriction system) and many an evening was spent re-watching Indian Jones and Sinbad films. My obsession with Ancient Egyptian and Arabic culture began when he gave me a series of children's magazines, filled with glorious pictures of pyramids, temples and rock reliefs, but my mom believes that perhaps it actually began when she used to read me One Thousand and One Nights during the months she was expecting me.
We've always lived in a global world but through technology, our lives today have become more intertwined than ever. Through my thoughts and observations of different subjects, primarily social sciences, I hope to show others, and remind myself, just how much. If you have any questions or comments about anything I write, please feel free to use the message box! I might eventually add a forum where I ask a question and we can discuss our opinions on it, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Enjoy!
